What is it?
Sometimes smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue develop in the uterus and form compact tumors which are called fibroids. It has been observed that 20 to 50 percent of women develop fibroids during their reproductive age. You may experience Heavy or prolonged menstrual periods, Abnormal bleeding between menstrual periods, Pelvic pain, Frequent urination, Back pain, Pain during intercourse.

How are they diagnosed?

  • Ultrasound (also called ultrasonography)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Hysterosalpingography
  • Blood test (to check for iron-deficiency anemia)

  • Serum Ferritin
  • Pelvic ultrasound scan
  • Detailed written report emailed or posted to you and your GP
